The Night of the Arts 2007

Here follows a few pictures of my visit to Taiteidenyö The Night of the Arts. The weather was cloudy but warm, and the rain held off most of the evening. The number of events seems to grow every year, but we headed first to Stalli to take advantage of a childrens' fishing game. We had then planned for my daughter to ride a pony there, but the queue was too long, as you see below.

Our next stop was a visit to the Watertower, which is still in use but also houses climbing faces. The tower attracted a great number of visitors, which meant that they needed to be allowed up in groups, as the upper part of the spiral staircase is not wide enough to permit two-way traffic. However, the views from the top made the long climb worthwhile. I have included two long-shots of dancers, one behind the Tourist Office, and one in the yard of Loftet, the handicraft shop.

We then moved on to the Tori, which was fuller and busier than I have ever seen before.

A little later and the members of the 'New Samba' dancing group began to gather for their Samba through the streets. They were preceded by a police escort and attracted more photo shots than probably any other event!

Our last stop was to watch native American musicians near the Rewell Center.
