The last week of July saw the annual sailing camp hosted by the Vaasa Steiner School. The event is held at a former coastguard station on the Island of Moikipää (62 degrees,53.5 minutes N; 21 degrees, 05.7 minutes E), about four nautical miles from Bredskär fishing harbour. All but two of the young sailors came from Steiner School, the others coming from Vaasan Merenkyntäjät. The camp was led by two junior trainers from that club, Nelli Kaski and Aurora Okkonen, working together with two very experienced sailors Arto Ämmäläinen and Hannu Puikko.
Responsible for the overall well-being of the twenty or so younger kids were Anita Tähtinen, Leena Mandelin and myself. The 'fleet' of vessels comprised six Optimist dinghies, one E-class dinghy, and a Buster and a RIB as support boats. Transport to and from the island was provided by a professional fishing vessel and a large pleasure power boat.
