Postboat Prepares for Launching

The Postyacht, or Postboat as she is more commonly known, spends her winters in a big shed at FM Boats on Palosaari. The members of the Postboat Association spend a lot of time and energy repainting the woodwork, oiling the deck planks and tarring the blocks and standing rigging. On Friday 23rd May 2008 the journey back to her natural element began. Ten tons of boat on small steel wheels needed a railroad of metal sheets, a team of layers and a lot of sweat. To turn the whole thing required a special steering trolley.
Several winters have now gone by, truck-size wheels have been fitted to the trailer, and each year we learn to do something better than we did the one before. Almost every summer Wednesday at 6 pm she sets sail and voyages around the local islands, and passengers are welcome. It is best to reserve a place, as she is registered for just 12 passengers plus crew. Call: 044 380 8083 (Finnish, Swedish and English works well), or send an email to: postijahti@postijahti.fi.
