HOUSING EXHIBITION - October 2007

October 28th, 2007 - ...and after a lot of digging and drilling and piling the first of the houses suffering subsidence gets a lift. In principal it is a simple process, but the reality must take a great deal of planning and sweat, and when the moment comes to start lifting, maybe an element of worry too.

After the piles have been situated around the building, steel joists are positioned under the building, with their ends over the heads of the piles. Then more loose material is scraped out from under the concrete foundations and replaced with steel plates with flat inflatable bags between. Then just link up the hoses to a compressor in the truck and start pumping. As the building rises slowly up, more steel plates are positioned over the steel joists as space becomes available. Piece of cake - as the saying goes. The advantage now is that if sea-levels rise due to global warming, the buildings can easily be raised further until they are standing on tall legs with boats moored to the front door porch ;-)

October 20th - not a very sunny day, but I clicked away and came up with this lot. I have also included a few shots of the nature in autumn in the area. Enjoy!

October 13th - and the first pictures for this month, and only two. I have been really busy.
