Housing Fair - June 2008
Sorry for the formating problems which showed up on Internet Explorer! They have been fixed.

June 30th 2008 - And here are the very last pictures of the site to appear on these pages before the Housing Fair actually opens on July 11th. I had to get special permission in order to get into the area to take these photos, as the perimeter fence now keeps out those who are not part of the final preparations. The last two photos are of Suvilahti Square, looking quite lush after all the rain. I am not adding comments to the rest of the photos, as I'm sure you'll be adding your own when you come to visit the show.

June 16th 2008, and the Suvilahti school yard is getting a full make-over. A complete set of new play equipment is being installed, underlaid by 'wall to wall' safety matting.
Here is a close-up of the safety matting, showing how it slots together, and an interesting new piece of equipment for the kids.
Here is a shot of the new climbing frame, but the matting hasn't reached this far yet.
Finally, as regards the schoolyard, here is a new basketball/football/ice-hockey rink.
Here in Majavanpolku, which has already been asphalted, one of the sideroads has half its new road surface complete.
On the other side of the road, the two prefabs that shot up so quickly look substantially ready, and much gardening work is going on in the foreground.
At the end of Majavanpolku nearest the shops, everything is beginning to look much more like a residential area, and less like a building site.
Here is a long shot from Lammassaari of the easternmost four houses on Liito-oravankatu. I was lucky enough to have been shown around the inside of the second house from the right, and it really is my kind of home.
These are the more westerly houses on the same road, and everything looks very much better now that water levels have risen to normal, after weeks of minus 40 cm levels.
Here is a general shot of Liito-oravankatu, showing the state of near-readiness of some of the houses.
June 8th 2008 - How the landscaping and planting is developing by the last house on Liito-oravankatu. Unfortunately, the current dry and sunny weather is not helping to make the place as lush and green as the planners had in mind.
By the sea, rocks have been arranged and many small shrubs have been planted.
This shows the inside curve of the lagoon from the westernmost point, but it should be pointed out that water levels have been extremely low for the past weeks and hopefully all will look a lot wetter at show time.
A view of how one yard is being readied, with the island in the background.
A slightly wider view of the same.
This shot shows how finished some houses are looking, including a streetlamp just outside.
Here is a garden in the making between two of the houses.
Here is a finished-looking house, complete with mailboxes outside.
This house probably shows the most dramatic external changes of the month. It is the first house on the right (plot 4) on Lito-oravankatu (the 'Lego' one I mentioned last month), and the facing is now completed.
The 'Promenade'.
Another shot of the same.
And another.
Looking back along the inside curve of the lagoon, the TV House nearest.
A longer shot of the same.
A house at the seaside of Majavanpolku.
A Lapland-style boardwalk meanders between the houses and the sea.
The eastern bridge from the boardwalk.
