These pics were taken on Sunday 29th July, and show how Suvilahti Square is developing, how Liito-oravankatu is beginning to look very much like a street, and how the Korkeamäki bridge junction has changed so dramatically since I went off to Sailing Camp a week ago!

A new log house rises quickly up from what were only concrete foundations a few days ago.
The new motorway slip now has been tarmacked as far as where the new roundabout will be.
Drilling for Heat
July 13th - Today I visited the site where drilling is going on in order to extract heat from under the sea. The drill enters the ground at a fairly shallow angle, pausing from time to time to add another length to its string. The device sends back information about its depth, local temperature etc, and can be steered by the machine operator. Today its target was a clump of reeds out in the bay (just visible in the first photo), where two other operators were waiting for the bit to come out of the sea beside them. They then attach the heating pipes, the machine is reversed, and pulls the pipes back with it on the return journey - simple but effective.
Not far under the sea-bed the temperature is always above freezing, even in the depth of winter. This heat can be extracted and used to heat our houses.

These latest pics were taken mostly during the evening of July 12th, when the sun finally showed itself after days of rain and overcast skies. This time I tried to concentrate a little more on some of the landscaping which has been done between the plots. I have included house shots where there has been noticeable progress since Sunday, and also one of the almost finished motorway slip extension, and one of progress with the park behind Suvilahti shops.
The thumbnail pictures below were taken on Sunday July 8th. It was rather cloudy with occasional rain showers, but I managed to get a shot of the roadworks by Korkeamäki bridge, then some of the more closely spaced detached houses behind the school, and some of and from the eastern island (which has been landscaped and planted with grass and shrubs).
