A New Season of Postyachting Begins!
The Postyacht has returned to the water and is ready for service. She is available for charter (for example: bachelor parties, birthdays, company trips etc).
Regular Thursday public sailings began on 17th June. Click on the picture to see more photos. Click HERE to go to the official Postyacht Site.

From Vaasa Inner Harbour - adults �15, children under 12 years �5
Every Thursday from 8th July to 29th July, (2 sailings) at 16:00 to 17:45, and 18:00 to 19:45
Also - 5th August, 18:00 to 20:00; and Thursdays 19.08 to 09.09, 18:00 to 20:00
Min 3 max 12 passengers per trip
You can reserve your tickets by phone (recommended), or buy them on the quayside before sailing.

Suvilahti Shopping Centre Gets an Upgrade
18th July 2010 - Suvilahti's shopping centre upgrade is almost complete. The previously wind-swept covered area is now enclosed with glass, has a fine new floor and looks altogether much more welcoming. The outside of the structure has also had a major facelift (although I'm not sure that I like all that sheet metal). Click on the picture to see more photos.

Final Section of Laihia-Vaasa Bike Route Now Complete
4th July 2010 - The final section of the bike route from Laihia to Vaasa has now been completed, so today I cycled off to test it out. It was, as I predicted, very smooth, very black and a joy to ride on, and included this interesting chicane. Several other people were making use of it too - 'serious' bikers with competition clothes, a young mum with her kids in a trailer, and several not-so-young persons like myself. Menkij�rvi Airfield
Recent snowfalls caused the complete destruction of a military aircraft hangar at Menkij�rvi (click HERE for great photos by Juuso Laitinen), damaging two historic military aircraft and two civilian ones. The picture above shows one of the latter, and was taken by Jari Pakkanen from Vaasa Flying Club. Obviously concerned about their own hangar, club members travelled to the airfield on Saturday, intending to clear some of the snow. However the hangar was not in danger, so the club-house roof was cleared instead (click on the picture to see more). If you click on the picture of the glider cockpit in the right column, this will lead to more photos about flying.

The FNS Pohjanmaa, flagship of the Finnish Navy, docked at Vaasa's Inner Harbour. She is currently the only one of her class, and has an ice operating classification of ICE-1A so she can operate all year round. During a crisis the main task for Pohjanmaa is mine laying and acting as a command ship. She also acts as a school ship for the Naval Academy cadets. What is 'Vaasa Pages' about?

'Vaasa Pages' was born in January 2006 and is unique, both in design and content. I write all my own code so the pages don't look like the 'ready' formats available on the web. 'Vaasa Pages' is about the city I love, and is becoming increasingly more focused on the city itself and places which are within easy reach. It is also about the things that interest me - like Green values, the nature, sailing and history and my kids' school - it is about summers and winters. 'Vaasa Pages' is a name, an entity, and that is why it is an 'it' and not a 'they'. I hope you enjoy your stay amongst its pages, and I would love to hear your feedback.
